Spotlight on Jazz & Poetry premiered in April of 2006 and is hosted by Clayton "Big Trigger" Corley Sr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The concept of the online radio show is based on parings of jazz musicians and their poetic contemporaries.
The early shows highlighted the music of John Coltrane and the poetry of Amiri Baraka. Dinah Washington and George Benson. SOJP features both legends and the newer artists in both genres. SOJP is also known for its in-depth interviews with poets such as Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Sandra Turner-Barnes, Toni Love, and musicians, Mulgrew Miller, Odean Pope, Roy Ayers, Pat Martino, and more!
These interviews provide artists a international online forum to talk about their work and the creative process.
For SOJP's conversation with Oni Lasana and other fabulous artists.
August 13, 2017 I was on cloud 9!!!! (if you don’t know what it mean google Temptations;-). Yep, struttin’ my stuff as a newly certified Laughter Yoga Leader by Alexa Drubay of Dr. Madan Kataria Laughter Yoga International University.
Weeks before, I learned of the practice when I learned a fellow storyteller would be coming to my area, so I visited the website of Lynn Ford of Ohio. She was also a Laughter Yoga Leader.
I was intrigued, fascinated and overjoyed to stumble upon a exercise that not only would benefit my own respiratory issues but also incorporate what I love to do, LAUGH!
Sometimes, to keep from crying, many times from sly, sarcasim or stupidity with silly friends, family and most times, at myself. Laugh at my mistakes, fumbling through life, knowing and not knowing when I will triumph or fail, or ever…overcome whatever came my way, when I didn't get my way;-)
With the deposit from a recent storytelling gig, I decided to re-invest in a new program of good cheer and wellness. Purchased yoga insurance, designed marketing tools, postcards, business cards, guideline banner, logo baseball hat, t-shirt, canvas bag, uploaded “happy” music and relaxation tracks to my new iphone, (gift from the hubby:-) hooked up a blue tooth, portable water proof bass boom Sony RED speaker.
Ready like Freddy!
For two weeks, I drove around visiting local elementary schools, senior centers, senior assistant living, speaking with principals, activity directors. All appeared to be very intrigued by the concept of yoga with no floor work or bending and twisting and turning. But no one called. I waited. Every evening I read Norman Cousins book, Anatomy of an Illness, watched the movie, watched TED Talks. Privately laughing like a mad person in my studio/playroom with Dr. Kataria, Alexa and Michael Rivest on You Tube. I was determined to one day laugh with real people, even if it killed me! No joke.
